Promotion of Science and Mathematics under Rashtriya Avishkar Abhijan (Elementary & Secondary):
“Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan” (RAA) aims at nurturing a spirit of inquiry and creativity, love for Science and Mathematics and effective use of technology amongst the children. The specific initiatives planned under RAA revolve around five major components viz School Science facility; Teacher Support Systems; Effective Classroom transaction and Assessment; Nurturing Student Clubs and Competitions and Community Sensitisation and Engagement.
(a) Excursion trip of students of Upper Primary Level was organized for 3300 students of class VI to VIII of Govt/ Provincialized schools. Excursion trip was conducted to provide exposure of the learners to Higher Institutes of Academic repute, Universities, Technical Institutes, Research Centres, National Parks, Places of educational and historical significance etc. A district level Committee was constituted for smooth implementation of the activity.
(b) Study trip of students of secondary level to HEIs was organized for 9300 number of students in order to enrich their learning experiences and to broaden their horizon of knowledge.
During the trip popular talk, scientific demonstration etc. were arranged by the Resource Persons of the Higher Institutes to make the Study trip informative and interesting.
(c) Mentoring of schools have been done in collaboration with IIT- Guwahati. The Experts from IIT Guwahati visited 330 secondary level schools to provide mentoring support. Physical hands on activity /workshops were conducted by the IIT Experts in 330 schools. Online educational materials and activities were continued to support the schools.
(d) Science and Maths Club Activity: For promotion of critical thinking, application based learning 85 IIT Guwahati mentors visited 330 schools in December 2024 and completed three days club formation activities and associated STEM workshop. They also conducted school level Science meet to motivate the school students of participating and nearby schools. Specially designed kits designed by IIT- Guwahati were used during the innovative workshops and was provided to the schools.
(e) Science and Maths Olympiad for learners of elementary and secondary level: The Olympiad was conducted in collaboration with IIT- Guwahati. The District level Olympiad was OMR based wherein 1,67,625 students participated . The test items were provided in five mediums viz Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, and English & Hindi. The State level Olympiad was conducted in the month of March 2025 centrally in which the district level toppers participated.
(f) Children Science Congress: Samagra Shiksha, Assam collaborated with Assam Science and Technology Council for conducting Children Science Congress for Secondary level students. The modalities and approaches of the Children's Science Congress (CSC) align with the five pillars of learning of Education for Sustainable Development, namely learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, learning to be, and learning to transform oneself and society. Children in the program have the opportunity to think, work with their own hands, collate and collect data, and analyse it. The programme was conducted in block, district and state level.
(g) Implementation of Vedic Mathematics in selected schools: Samagra Shiksha Assam is implementing Vedic Mathematics programme in 1423 secondary schools through Visham Edutech Solutions Private Limited. The programme comprises of capacity building training programme of 1423 teachers, Provision of Activity book to 43,000 students of Class 9 and school based support and monitoring.
