MODEL SCHOOLS  IN  TEA GARDEN AREAS – A VISION OF THE GOVT OF ASSAM TOWARDS A BETTER FUTURE OF TEA COMMUNITY.

Assam shines green in the world arena for its world-class production of tea. Being home to the highest number of tea gardens in the world, Assam takes pride in the tea community, who have for years before Independence given their generations of service and hard work to keep us proud across the globe. However, despite more than seven decades of independence of the country, this community still suffers from the marginalization of the Tea Garden Authority, particularly in the field of literacy and education. It was during the 2017- 2018 state budget that the then Honourable Finance Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma and the present Chief Minister of Assam visioned a futuristic dream for their service to make our state and country glitter in the globe.  With this vision, the proposal to set up 200 tea garden schools was put forward by the government of Assam.

Accordingly in  November 2022, the foundation stone for 119 schools was laid at a cost of Rs.142.50 crore. The state government started the building of 119 schools. His vision to ensure the overall development of the tea garden community has been translated into reality with the setting up of 97 such schools in 2022. A total of 116 Tea Garden Mkdel Schools are functioning in 2023. The schools with state-of-the-art amenities are expected to bring a holistic change among tea garden workers and children as far as quality education is concerned. The schools are equipped with modern amenities for quality education, efficient teachers, technology, smart classrooms and future prospects and plans for the overall development of the students.
